Some things about Newtown, CT
Newtown is located in northern Fairfield county, was founded in 1705 and incorporated in 1711. The population was 25,031 at the 2000 census.
The town symbol is the rooster, a weathervane that still sits atop the meeting house. Ledgend has it that Revolutionary War soldiers used it as target practice.
Some notable Newtown landmarks are the flagpole, located literally in the middle of main street (erected in 1876).
'Fairfield Hills' mental hospital, closed in 1995, was in the movie 'Sleepers' and is rumored to be haunted.
